James L. Prestini (1908-1993) was an engineer turned artist who is famous for his wood turned bowls. He was an active practitioner of the Bauhaus tradition and a professor emeritus of architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, where he had taught beginning design classes and helped to develop the design laboratory.
